Infectious Disease Program

Epidemiology

The mission of the Infectious Disease Program is to prevent and control infectious diseases in Alaska by:

  • determining the occurrence and severity of infectious diseases important to public health;
  • discovering and controlling outbreaks;
  • control and elimination of tuberculosis through appropriate preventive therapy and identification and treatment of TB cases;
  • enforcing school and child care tuberculosis regulations;
  • educating the public and health care professionals about infectious diseases;
  • collaborating with communities and other partners to plan, implement and evaluate science-based strategies that prevent infectious diseases; and
  • coordinating surveillance and control efforts for all infectious diseases of public health importance.
